A worried woman feels pressured by friends to have an abortion before she is ready.

My Friends Are Telling Me to Abort, But I’m Not Ready.

An unexpected pregnancy can leave you with a lot to sort through. If your friends immediately start telling you to have an abortion, the situation can feel even more challenging, especially if you haven’t had time to figure out how you feel.

You do not have to make a decision just because the people around you have strong opinions. The Hope Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center offers free, confidential appointments where you can ask questions, learn about your pregnancy, and get information about all your options. Schedule your appointment with us today.

Your Friends Don’t Get the Final Say

Friends may be trying to help. They may be worried about school, work, money, your relationship, or how a pregnancy could change your plans.

That does not mean they get to make this decision for you.

You may value their opinions and still disagree with them. You may also need more time before you know what you want. Making a pregnancy decision is a big moment in your life, and rushing to make one because of someone else can leave you feeling even more unsettled.

Say What You Need From Them

If the same conversations keep happening, it may help to be direct.

You can say that you are still gathering information, that you do not want to be pushed toward one option, or that you need a break from discussing the pregnancy for a while.

Good friends may still have opinions, but they should be able to respect a boundary. If someone keeps pressuring you after you have asked them to stop, it may be worth limiting those conversations until you feel more settled.

Get Information From More Than Your Friend Group

Friends often speak from personal beliefs or secondhand information. Before making a decision, make sure you understand what parenting, adoption, and abortion actually involve.

An ultrasound also provides the information you need to make an educated decision. You’ll learn how far along you are, where the pregnancy is located, and whether the pregnancy is developing.

Getting all the facts will help you separate what you know from what other people assume.

Take Your Own Thoughts Seriously

You do not need to have a final answer today. Give yourself time to ask questions, learn about your pregnancy, and think about what you want. This decision affects your life and future most, and you alone can make it.

The Hope Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center is available if you want a private place to get information and ask questions. Schedule your free appointment today.

The Hope Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center does not provide or refer for abortions.
