You Have Rights as a Student

Under Title IX, you have a right to continue in high school without discrimination.

You’re entitled to continue participating in classes and extracurricular activities, receive reasonable adjustments, have excused absences due to pregnancy and childbirth, return to the same academic and extracurricular status as before your medical leave, and more.

If you’re being bullied or harassed, you can report this to your Title IX Coordinator or guidance counselor. Your school must protect you from harassment due to Title IX. If you feel your school discriminates against you or does not protect your rights, you can also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.

High School is Temporary

Sometimes it can feel like your high school reputation is the end-all, be-all of your life. But it’s such a short period. In only a few years (or even months if you’re a senior), you will graduate and go your separate ways.

You might stay in touch with your closest friends, but others will start jobs, trade school, or college in other towns. You may only see some of them at high school reunions, and that’s if you decide to go to them.

Instead of thinking about your social life as you make decisions, think about your life in the long term. Where do you see yourself in five years? What are your goals?

Make a pregnancy choice for yourself and your future, and not based on the opinions of others.
